Just had to share....

I had a great opportunity to attend a friends birth!

So my friends hubby is deployed and no extra family around, so Jarin and I offered a few months ago to watch her kids when the baby comes. I had lined up some people to call on a moments notice to watch both our kids while I drive her to the hospital, she didn't seem to want me to stay an as much as I couldn't fathom being alone in the hospital it was her choice and we are still getting to know each other. I even contemplated just waiting around in the hospital to be sure all was well. I didn't have to though.
She called about 5:15 in the morning, when I answered the phone it was her 5yr son asking, "my mom is going to bring us over, what toys can we bring?" LOL! It took me a minute to figure out who it was and I asked for his mom, told her I would be there in a minute to get them, I didn't want her to drive to me, I could here she was in pain. Luckily they live very close!

I ran through the house, my jeans were in the laundry downstairs, and got dressed and ran out the door. Jarin got up and was waiting for us to bring him the kids! Which not 5 min after we left them her daughter started throwing up! Poor thing!
We rushed to the hospital, she had two choices of hospitals one that was closer but the Dr said he preferred the other. She seemed in enough pain though I wasn't sure we could make it the extra 20 min. So I called the closer one and found out her Dr was coming to that one already for someone else very soon, so we went there. We got to the hospital about 5:50 and she aksed me to stay with her, she didn't want ome to leave to go park the car. After parking and some explaining and telling them i couldn't fill out the paper they wanted since I didn't know her info, she had a few hard contractions. The nurse told her not to push!!! They were trying to have her breath through them so they could wait for the Dr, ya right! She tried but it didn't work, her water hadn't broken yet so with one contraction (and involuntary push) her water burst and the baby "came out with the tide" right onto the bed, just me and the nurse in the room! The baby was born at 6:15 am, only 25 minutes after getting to the hospital!

I know birth is supposed to be beautiful, but I have never felt that way, I have felt the end result of baby is beautiful but the process and bodily fluids are kind of on the yucky side LOL! But I wasn't grossed out one bit, it was a neat and interesting experience. My friend asked me afterwards if I was looking forward to my own birth still and I had to say yes, seeing it up close and not being the one in pain definitely helped me with some fears and confidence.
The kids were great and I took them to meet their new sister, my mom watched my kids so I could go, not enough seats in my car for all 8 kids I had this week! The baby is adorable!!!! And everyone now is healthy and home.
I am glad for the experience and the chance to help, I loved it, really! Plus since her family was gone and her hubby I tried my best to do the things I know my mom and hubby would do for me when i have a baby so hopefully she can relax and recoop! The ward is taking in a couple meals and the laundry is done. I hope I get more chances to babysit, especially the tiny one too, and more opportunities to help like that again. The adrenaline rush was great, I was really tired when it wore off though!!
Here is a couple pictures of this cute baby!! She was 8lb 14.6 oz! I love the pouty face just after the birth, so cute!

What an awesome experience...so cool! Her hair is adorable. Have you thought about being a nurse or midwife after your children have grown? I admire your strength, always being there for your friends and family.

Isn't that hair great! No, I have thought about nursing but not midwife. I have loved helping the moms, even one friend I helped learn to nurse her baby, it is great experiences. Maybe one day I will finally decide what i want to be when I grow up!! In school anyway, being a mom has always been my first dream!

You could be a postpartem doula or something! That's a neat experience, and what a chubby little girl!

What a great experience that was for you. You were so good to help I wish every one could have a friend like you. The world would be a much better place. If you need help when you go I could come over.I don't sleep at night so I would be awake for night duty.

I'm so glad you were able to be there for her. I can't imagine doing that on my own!
