Alison had her tonsils and adenoids removed today, she did really well. On Monday we went to the pre-surgery class for kids and when she heard about the IV's she buried her head into me and cried. She was so scared. But by this morning she was ready to go, still scared and letting us know she didn't want to go, but not arguing! Once there she was nervous but cute, we told her she needed to decide which of us she wanted to come to post op with since only one parent could, the other parent could join about 10 min later in recovery. She took out the magna doodle they had and wrote our name and was putting a check next to our names for every correct thing we said about her and what she liked. Whoever gets the most checks wins. Silly girl! She liked the attention from both of us though! Our surgery got bumped further out, we got there at 9:00am and supposed to have surgery at 10:30, then they said it would be 11:15 and offered crafts, then she finally went in about 11:45. A girl named Emily who was a childlife specialist was there at the Monday class and again today, she was amazing, she sat with Alison, talked to her tons, went over again everything about the surgery and even got out her fears she hadn't yet expressed. She was also allowed to go into the operating room with her and stay till she was asleep, then check on her afterwards. She deserves Carmel brownies!
Alison was upset afterwards, dizzy, and in pain, but after some medication and slushies she was feeling better. Her tonsils were big, we knew that but her adenoids that you can't see were blocking 90% of her airway and that is when she's not sick! Her O2 levels kept dropping so they wanted her to stay until they stayed up for about 30 min. SO we gave her the Loratab and after a while she was great! She went into surgery happy and hyper, and then left the hospital the same way. The intern wheeling her out said he doesn't usually get such happy patients, they are usually in pain or sleepy. She has thoroughly enjoyed eating tons of popsicles, Ice cream, chocolate milk, Juice, slushies and water. I can't believe how much she has eaten of it all. Some she only tastes but at her rate I may have to go for more Chocolate ice cream!

I got the before pics scrapped but not the after just yet!

Today she has been bored and cranky except for an hour when she is on her medicine. and when it's time for another dose she really hurts. She did get tired of ice cream today but keeps trying other things and nothing else feels as good. She says the ice cream melts and then just runs down your throat, not as much swallowing. Finally she asked for bread sticks, I didn't have any so we made up a can of Pillsbruy Crescent rolls, she ate 3! That along with a half a tuna sanwhich (with pickles, she said it hurt but she couldn't eat tuna without pickles) and just a sip of Chicken Noodle (didn't like it, normally she loves it)was her dinner tonight.

Funny part this morning as she was complaining of being bored, she asked why she couldn't go to school? I told her shse could on Monday, and she asked why not Saturday??? I told her she was now talking crazy and put on another movie. Silly girl!
